Ready Player One

If you like video games, sci-fi and dystopian stories, then you should pick up a copy of the book Ready Player One. Ready Player One is a book based in the 2040s where the world has gone to shit so everyone lives in the virtual reality world called the Oasis. When the Oasis' creator dies, he leaves three keys and an Easter Egg hidden in the game. He decided that the first person to find the Egg and complete the quests that go with the keys will inherit his company, fortune and have complete control of the Oasis. Five years have gone past and no one has come close to finding the first key until the book's protagonist Wade Watts finds it. The book follows Wade and some of his friends as they try to hurry and find all the keys before the corporation IOI does and corrupts the Oasis.

I read this book for the first time in 2018, right before the movie came out and loved it. It quickly became one of my favorite books and I decided to reread it over the past couple of weeks. And of course, after reading the book, I went to rewatch the movie.

The cool thing about the movie is it's the same concept as the book, but the movie's quests are entirely different, which makes it so reading the book doesn't totally spoil the movie. Usually, when movies change things from the books, it doesn't always go too well, but I think the Ready Player One movie does a good job. The movie also has great animation and effects which I'm always a sucker for.

So if you're looking for a book and a movie, Ready Player One is an excellent option for both. Also, I found out that the book has its own easter egg hidden in it. The author created a contest around the easter egg shortly after the book was released. While the contest is now over, it's still fun to see where and how the easter egg is hidden. Don't worry – I won't spoil it for you.

I'm also glad that I decided to reread the book this year because Ready Player Two comes out this November, so I'll be sure to be reading that this fall.
