Ready Player Two
** Minor Spoilers for Ready Player One **
Not that long ago I reread the book Ready Player One not knowing that a sequel was going to be released soon after. Well, I just finished Ready Player Two and definitely have some thoughts. If you read and enjoyed Ready Player One then I definitely think it’s worth picking up the sequel. A lot of the stuff I loved about the first book came back in this book including the scavenger hunt type story, throwbacks to 80s pop culture and the character I loved from the first book.
Even though I liked the second book I will have to say it did not stand up as well in comparison to the first one. I really enjoyed the first third of the book which included catching up with the characters after they won Halliday’s quest from book one and introducing the new antagonist. But as the story progressed it got a little slow and then seemed to be rushed at the end which I didn’t really like.
But I still enjoyed it for the fact that it took place in a virtual world and just reading about how technology can take over a whole culture is really intriguing to me. I actually do think this book will make great movie sequel as well. Not sure if Ernest Cline will write another story about the High Five but I can see potentially for books in this world about other characters.
Again if you like sci-fi, technology, 80s pop culture and quests then I think you’ll like this but Ready Player One will still be one of my all time favorites.
