Glee
For all my music and theatre lovers out there who haven’t seen Glee yet, please get on it!
Glee was one of my favorite shows in high school. It was such a feel-good show with great music performances and silly storylines. It was a show that had serious storylines but at the same time, you didn’t have t take it so seriously. I mean it’s kinda hard to take a show super seriously when the characters break out into song in outlandish costumes but that’s why I loved it.
I recently went back a rewatched all of the seasons of Glee and it reminded me how much i love cheesy story lines, comfort TV and musicals. I watched Glee live when it was airing back in the day but I never finished the series because after Cory Monteith (the actor who plays the lead character Finn) died, it was hard to continue watching the show knowing that everything that happened after his death was not the original plan.
This year on the same day that Cory died many years ago it was announced that another Glee star Naya Rivera had also passed away after being lost at sea for multiple days. After hearing this news i started thinking about how much I loved the character Santana that Naya played on the show and how sad it was that two beloved actors from the show (as well as one other actor who has a shady history) are no longer on this earth. The news of Naya’s death prompted me to go back and watch the show and I recently finally finished all the seasons and got past the dreaded Quarterback episode which was the last one I watched before giving up the show.
In this crazy time that 2020 has been, watching Glee made me feel happy. I got super reinvested and laughed, smiled and cried while going through the show again. And even though the show would have been different had Cory not died, I was still satisfied with how the show managed to entertain me and even how it ended.
I also got to see where I first fell in love with my favorite CW superheroes Grant Gustin (The Flash) and Melissa Benoist (Supergirl) – Media Monday posts for another day for sure.
So if you like music (any music cause Glee covers it all) and high school drama shows then I highly suggest checking out Glee for some feel good moments and great songs. And if you don’t already love the song, by the time you are finished with this show you definitely fall in love with Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey.
